It is important to me that clients feel heard and understood, and that coming in for counselling adds a practical value to their lives in reaching their therapeutic goals.

For over twenty years I have worked with individuals, couples, and families facing challenges of various sorts. Whether issues are due to relational stress, life transitions, trauma, unexpected events, or common difficulties that face us all at one time or another, I take a client centred approach and provide strong listening and assessment skills and helpful feedback while I pay attention to client needs throughout treatment. It is important to me that clients feel heard and understood, and that coming in for counselling adds a practical value to their lives in reaching their therapeutic goals.

Experience

Along with private practice I have had other professional placements. I have worked in psychiatric care in Melbourne Australia in 2005, and have worked with youth with exceptional psychosocial needs and their families as the clinician for secure treatment at the Roberts/Smart Centre from 2007 to 2012. I have had several community contracts including assignments in school based settings and in community centres throughout Ottawa. I am a supervisor for the Counselling and Spirituality Masters Degree program at St Paul University and a guest lecturer in family systems. I have lots of life experience as well from raising two wonderful sons with my husband to having lived overseas. I have experienced many of life’s adjustments and trials over the years. All this experience, both professional and personal, has informed my practice and deepened my empathy and connection with my clients.

Education and Training

I am trained in individual, couple, and family counselling. My undergraduate degree is in psychology, my master’s degree is in counselling and spirituality with a concentration in couple counselling. I have taken many specialized trainings in trauma treatment for youth and adults over the years.

I have studied art therapy at St Stephens College in Alberta as well as expressive arts in therapy at the European Graduate School in Switzerland. I hold a PhD in Expressive Arts Therapy from Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts researching the facilitative effects of the arts on the process of forgiveness.
